So, "Flames of Hope" was actually my most anticipated book for 2022. ...And I somehow forgot its publication date... Now, I had high hopes for this book, even though I was starting to like Tui T.'s books less and less as the series continued. Books 1-5 was awesome, 6-10 were kind of meh, and throughout 11-13, I was getting a bit frustrated and bored. The only reason I had such high expectations for this book it because I read "The Dangerous Gift" (WoF book #14), and it totally blew my mind! Tui T. was really making a comeback! Oh, and it's also supposed to be the LAST WINGS OF FIRE BOOK! Anyway, long story short, "Flames of Hope" failed to meet most of my expectations, but it still wasn't that bad. Good things first: 1) Luna wasn't my favorite dragon -and she still isn't- but she made a pretty great protagonist. There were so many new characters being introduced that I grew to love so much! Tui T. wrote her characters as realistically as she wrote them in the first five books. The character building was incredible, and it was one of my favorite things about this book. 2) Tui T.'s writing was beautiful and descriptive as always! It was better than the writing for books 6-10. It was amazing, and I got sucked in right away! 3) The pacing of the story was pretty good. It's not something that I pay attention to unless the plot is being carried out either too fast or too slow. This, I could safely say, if a happy medium. NOW! For the bad things... 1) The plot and story line! I don't want any spoilers in this, but the resolution was a huge let-down. I had a big problem with the was "Darkness of Dragons" (WoF book #10) ended and the way Darkstalker was so easily vanquished. This book had a very similar problem. The ending was rushed, and the resolution did not leave me satisfied, and barely anything in the end was on page. 2) This book left so many loose ends! How about all the other characters back in Phyrria? I felt like this book could have given other characters a more complete ending, no matter how minor they are. 3) Winter and Queen Snowfall were not in this book. More of a personal reason, but they were my favorite characters! ALL IN ALL... This book was an okay read, but it's natural to expect something better from a book that it intended to tie up everything that books 11-14 covered! It was honestly a little disappointing! This is not just the last book in this sub-series, but it finished off the entire WoF series! However, I could be overthinking this. I'm more of a critical reader (if I do say so myself), but this book could be read with no complaints if you just read without overthinking much! I still expected more, and I wouldn't recommend this to anyone who read "Darkness of Dragons" and thought that the ending felt wonky and wrong. Sorry Tui T. (but I still love most of your books!).
