Nick Bell? Not extraordinary. But being the most popular fanfiction writer in the Extraordinaries fandom is a superpower, right?
After a chance encounter with Shadow Star, Nova City’s mightiest hero (and Nick’s biggest crush), Nick sets out to make himself extraordinary. And he’ll do it with or without the reluctant help of Seth Gray, Nick's best friend. But what if becoming an Extraordinary isn't as easy as he thought it was? What if everything isn't like what it seems?
Did you ever read a book, and the protagonist just did something so completely and absolutely stupid, and the only thing you can do it painfully continue reading and look at them like:

*Disappointed Guardian Angel*
That's how I felt like nearly every chapter when it came to Nick Bell.
Main Character:
'The Extraordinaries' has one of those characters who sometimes act completely self centered, makes the obviously wrong decision, ends up hurting people he loves, and is completely oblivious to the truth - even when it's staring him right in the face. Now, don't get me wrong - Nick's got completely good intentions. I honestly think that he changed in the end, and that he can be a great person sometimes. However, he's not one of those characters who you can end up just forgiving for every dumb decision. If you dislike or can't tolerate reading books that center around characters like this -how can I put this delicately- stay far, far away from Nick.
Writing Style:
This book is written in third-person. If I'm being honest, it took me some time to become engaged in the writing style. I'm mostly used to reading books written from first-person. Here's the thing about third-person, though: around one or two chapters in, I get completely sucked in.
Tone
This is a pretty light read. It isn't deep or philosophical, and it most likely won't make you cry. ( But I have to admit that I might have cried once...). The Extraordinaries' actually ended up being pretty funny! It's either that or me having a very bad sense of humor...
Plot
The plot is an average plot. It wasn't OUTSTANDING, but it definitely wasn't bad. There was romance in this book, but 3/4 of it made me want to roll my eyes. Plot twists on the other hand, were pretty bad. If the secret identity of Shadow Star and Pyro Storm was not unexpected. I figured it out by the second chapter. It isn't something that you have to look out for; it basically jumps out at your face. Besides, half of the plot consists of Nick acting oblivious and making the wrong decision.
*Me whenever Nick goes into deep thought about Shadow Star or Pyro Storms secret identities*
Now, this book was pretty good in my POV, and I really did end up liking Nick. I'd give 'The Extraordinaries' a 3/5. You shouldn't read this if you're the kind of reader who hates main characters who can be completely and absolutely oblivious to the effect of their own actions and everything around them. Also avoid if you're looking for something that will end up making you cry, or something that's more on the serious side. If you like suspense, stay away from this book.
If you want to read this book, I personally think that you should try to find a free e-book or borrow from the library.
That's All For Now!
Thank you for reading my book review! I hope this helped you decided whether you wanted to read 'The Extraordinaries', or if you didn't!
Bonus Time: If you read this, how long did it take before you knew who Pyro Storm and Shadow Star were? Comment your answer!
