When the SandWing succession ended, the NightWing secrets were revealed. No NightWing actually had the ability to see the future or to read minds. The dragon world thought that they were done with prophecies for good. But a young NightWing who is attending Jade Academy might be the first NightWing with powers in centuries. And she has a prophecy to deliver...

"Beware the darkness of dragons.

Beware the stalker of dreams

Beware the talons of power and fire

Beware one who is not what she seems

Something is coming to shake the Earth

Something is coming to scorch the ground

Jade Mountain will fall beneath thunder and ice

Unless the lost city of night can be found"

*Sigh*

I'll just say this: books 1-5 were better. I honestly liked the characters and writing style of that series better, The writing style was actually pretty good. Tui T. Sutherland has, to date, written and narrated some of the most beautiful and incredible third person middle grade novels. She'll always be awesome in my book.

But!

I'll admit that I liked the characters from the first series better. And, no, that's not because I'm overly attached to them. The characters in these series don't seem as deeply written as before. Some actually seem a little cliche! Most of them had NO character development or depth whatsoever! I also feel like their relationship wasn't as deep as the original group of dragonets. Some may disagree, but I'll back up my opinion another time...

My point is, I didn't feel a good relationship with some characters as others. See here (does not spoil anything important):

  1. Moon: NightWing with powers and ability to see future. Way to Mary-Sue in my opinion.

  2. Winter: IceWing. He's my little angel and I won't let anyone hurt him. I have officially adopted him. My favorite.

  3. Peril: We met her already in book 1. She's okay.

  4. Turtle: Tsunami's little brother. He's okay.

  5. Qibli: Met him in book 5. Was okay, but lost my approval in the last book...

Too much romance: There was way too much romance in this book. It's not like I don't like romance (I like it just fine); it's just put into places where it's unnecessary in this series. It took too much of the plot, and every single main character in this book had to go through with some sort of romantic interest. There was even a love triangle...

The other thing I disliked is the plot. This one's pretty big. The plot line of this book is pretty interesting at first. There were still the plot twists in here that I loved so much! But, in the end, you want the plot to be completely finished and any lose ends have to be tied off, right? There can't be any plot holes. It has to feel right. It can't seem illogical. That's exactly why I disliked this series's resolution...

It didn't handle the ending or the antagonist in a way I viewed as satisfying.

The ending also seemed a little too perfect for my taste. If you think about it, most of the main characters got what they desired. Except for one character; the only one I actually liked... (don't worry; this doesn't spoil anything truly important).

All in all, I do not recommend this series. I personally didn't think that this one lived up to the first WoF series. The ending wasn't satisfying, and there was a major plot hole. Despite my opinion, reading it is entirely your choice. The characters from the former series are still included sometimes, I suggest that you borrow this from the library or find and online version. There is a series after this, and if you want to read that one, but still want to pass on this one, I suggest you search up a quick summary on Google.

Bonus time: What did you think of Peril in book 1?

Thank you for reading my book review! I hope this was helpful! Comment if you read any good books lately!
